THIS November Holly Forsyth, along with friends and family from the Bass Coast community will team up to face Australia’s toughest half marathon in Hobart, Tasmania.
With the suffering of brain cancer so close to her heart, and currently no cure, Holly has taken on the challenge and registered for the ‘Point to Pinnacle’ Carrie’s Beanies 4 Brain Cancer (CB4BC) team with a goal to run the 21.1 km trail to Mt Wellington.
The half marathon is set to take place on Sunday, November 19 to raise vital funds for brain cancer.
A 10-week program is in place to assist participants in their preparation for the extensive challenge.
Holly has already started her strength training, pushing herself to accomplish long distance runs; running to Kilcunda and back through the Wonthaggi rail trail - calculating her time and distance to better her pace and speed before she begins her incline training in the coming weeks.
“The climb to Mt Wellington is 1200 meters in elevation, so I’ll be training with hill sprints and interval running, as well as two-hour flat runs.
“This training will help me get a steady speed and control my breathing, as I plan to run the entire 21.1 km track,” said Holly.
Being her first time participating in a half marathon, Holly registered for the 10-week online training program to learn tips and tricks from marathon trainer, Matt to get her prepared. “I’m estimating the challenge will take me approximately three hours to complete.”
Holly has raised $7,322 of her $8,000 goal and updates her training progress online weekly.
In 2022, 200 ‘Point to Pinnacle’ fundraisers raised $360,000 when they took on the half marathon, with the 2023 goal set at $400,000 with the overall critical mission to end brain cancer as a terminal illness.
