Seven top junior surfers from Bass Coast head to NSW for Australian Junior Titles

2 min read

SURFING Victoria has announced the 2025 Victorian Junior Surfing Team presented by Surf Better Now, and Victoria’s top juniors from Bass Coast are set to compete at the Australian Junior Surfing Titles at Wollongong next week.

The Opening Ceremony will be on Friday, November 28, with surfing to begin on Saturday, November 29. The event will be completed on Friday, December 5.

Held in Wollongong in NSW, the seven-day event will feature over 180 competitors from across the country. Originally scheduled for South Australia’s Fleurieu Peninsula in late November, the decision was made to relocate due to the unpredictability of conditions associated with the algal bloom.

31 of Victoria’s top junior surfers will compete across the event including, U18 Junior Women, Lillian Bassed (Sandy Point), U 16 Cadet boys, Arch Rayner (Inverloch) and Angus Kennedy (Cowes), U 16 Cadet girls, Evie Lutz (Cowes) and Savannah Bennett (Cape Woolamai), U 14 Grommet boys, Dusty Rayner (Inverloch) and U 14 Grommet girls, Scarlett Rennie (Phillip Island).

“Representing Victoria at the Australian Junior Surfing Titles is something truly special,” said Surfing Victoria CEO Adam Robertson.

“Our athletes have put in the hard work, and I can’t wait to see them rise to the challenge in Wollongong. I’ve got no doubt they’ll give it everything they’ve got and do the state proud.”

Lillian Bassed from Sandy Point said that she’s really excited to be a part of the Australian Junior Titles this year and looks forward to competing against the best girls in the country.

“In the lead-up to the event, I’ve been trying to focus on the skills I am going to want for the short, sharp, fast waves at Wollongong,” said Lillian. “I’ve been surfing as much as I can around home and have been to some state team training sessions at Urbnsurf wave pool and Cape Woolamai with Adam Robertson and James Eastern from Surfing Victoria, as well as weekly training sessions on the island with Adrian Sorati.

Surfers will compete in individual divisions, including Under 14, 16 and 18 age groups, along with the prestigious MR Shield School divisions.
