State appearance for Bass Coast basketballers

FOR the second year in a row, Bass Coast College’s senior girls’ basketball team was represented at the School Sport Victoria state finals on September 18.

The team represented the school with pride, coming away with one win and two losses.

They enjoyed a five-point win against Albert Park Secondary College.

The game started competitively, but the girls from Bass Coast managed to pull away and retained their lead.

Good zoning, defence and court structure was credited for this win.

Bass Coast was defeated by Box Hill Senior Secondary College 20 to 48, and Maribyrnong College 39 to 46.

Box Hill went on to win the pool and go into the grand final against Catherine McAuley College.

Box Hill was later named state champion after a 38 to 18 grand final win.

Bass Coast College ultimately ranked third in its pool.

For the Year 12 girls, the last game was made memorable when they were allowed to play six on six for the last 10 minutes, so they could all play as a team one last time.

“We had some fun in the end because for our Year 12s, it’s the last time they will represent the school. It was a good game to finish on,” student engagement principal and coach Ross Bramley said.

“What I was most pleased with was that these girls don’t play together regularly, but they still performed incredibly well. They showed great teamwork and were just wonderful examples for the other students at our school. They represented our school beautifully. The encouragement from the sidelines and the positivity made them a lovely team to coach.”

Mr Bramley said the way everyone contributed to the team made the difference on their path to the state finals.
