Taekwondo world champion from Inverloch

INVERLOCH Taekwondo master Cassandra Heenan has taken out gold at the World Haidong Gumdo Taekwondo Championships on Jeju Island in South Korea. 

Head Instructor at Heenan Taekwondo, Master Cassandra won a gold medal for individual sword forms in the brown belt division. 

A heavily contested group, the brown belt division included several hometown Korean favourites.

Cassandra won three elimination knockout rounds to secure her world title.

Australia took a team of twenty-two competitors to the world titles from Victoria and Queensland including five members from the Heenan Taekwondo gyms. 

Australia finished equal first with South Korea in the final tally, with competitors attending from all over the world, including strong teams from the USA, Mexico, Italy, Kuwait, Germany, South Africa and Asia.

Haidong Gumdo is an ancient martial art from Korea that is over three thousand years old. 

Very similar to Japanese Samurai and an extension of Traditional Taekwondo, Haidong Gumdo is taught at Heenan Taekwondo martial arts clubs in Wonthaggi, Inverloch, Drouin and Pakenham.
