Three from three as Parrots' reserves go off to the big dance

SENIOR experience was sprinkled around the ground for Leongatha in Saturday’s preliminary final against Moe and it showed.

With a talented group around them, the likes of Ben Fort, Xavier Bolge, Will Littlejohn, Sam Bradley, Ben Willis, Brok Davidson, Ayden Williams Finn Donohue and others led the way as the Parrots got an early break on the Lions.

They dominated the opening quarter and might have had more goals on the board than those kicked by Noah Fixter in the opening minute, followed by majors to Kade Berryman and Ben Fort.

In fact, Moe got their first goal only moments before the siren to end the first term, from virtually their only attacking move, via Callum Nash.

But the contest got more willing at the start of the second quarter as Moe settled into their game, James Maslen turning the Parrots out with a fine mark at full back and Moe swinging into attack themselves where Zavier Bolge came up to stop them in their tracks.

Ultimately, it was Sam Bradley who kicked long and straight to get the Parrots rolling again before a great tackle by Liam O’Neill released Ayden Williams, who was showing great dash out of the centre. His goal retained the momentum for the Parrots.

Moe went into the game without their full complement of players due to some eligibility issues with the seniors not playing on the day.

With Leongatha leading by five goals at the last change, they certainly looked to be doing more than enough and when Finn Donohue got the opening goal for the last quarter, the cheers went up from the Parrot faithful as they started to look forward to the main football and netball games of the day, the Leongatha seniors against Warragul and the A Grade netballers facing Drouin, both in do-or-die preliminary finals.
