THIS July saw the commencement of ‘energy circles’ delivered in partnership between Totally Renewable Tenby (TRT) and Mycelia Renewables.

The first event ‘electrify your home’ involved attendees visiting an electrified home in Corinella.

The ‘energy circles’ are community gatherings and conversations about energy efficiency and renewable energy.

They are, as Laura Bulmer coordinator of TRT shared, “really about facilitating a space where people in our community can come together and take turns to lead and learn, while we are all on our journeys of adapting our lives for a sustainable future.”

Moragh Mackay – managing director of Mycelia Renewables said the energy circles spontaneously arose out of an event that TRT with Mycelia Renewables hosted in May 2023.

There are four energy circles planned to the end of year with the potential for more if interest continues.

The next energy circle will run in September and will be on energy efficiency.

Other topics explored in the energy circles will emerge from what the community says they want and need to know.

The partnership between TRT and Mycelia Renewables formed out of common interests.

Mycelia Renewables support community initiatives like TRT and they also are piloting an energy collective which aligns to goals TRT are seeking to achieve through their road map.

This is achieved through increasing access to renewable energy- for those who need support with roof top solar or those in rental accommodations without it who through the collective can access renewable energy at the same price as others in the collective through ‘matched energy’.

Longer term goals of the energy collective, includes increasing the amount of solar and battery, members of the energy collective have and can share, and community scale solar battery systems that can be co-owned by local communities.

Moragh said that energy sharing is already happening.
