A DEDICATED team of local volunteers is working tirelessly behind the scenes to prepare for the hugely popular Bayside Health Fete which takes place at the Wonthaggi Senior Citizens Club on Saturday October 31.

Organisers have promised a vibrant day of activities for attendees of all ages, blending community fun with a shared fundraising goal. By supporting the stalls and activities, local residents will be able to directly contribute to strengthening regional healthcare.

Among the dedicated community members who work tirelessly behind the scenes is President of the Bass Coast Health Ladies Auxilliary Raye Tucker who has been a volunteer at the hospital for ten years.

“The auxiliary has been going for over 100 years, and we have raised tens of thousands of dollars,” said Ms Tucker. “The hospital has always been in the same location and was originally a tent where the café is today.”

Ms Tucker said she was born in the hospital and never left Wonthaggi. “I enjoy it very much and like to give back to the hospital. I’ve done everything as a volunteer including making up packs, theatre and Meals on Wheels.”

Ms Tucker paid tribute to major sponsors All World Travel, Wonthaggi Meats, Tyrepower Wonthaggi and the Wonthaggi Miners’ Dispensary. “They’ve been very generous to us.”

Volunteer and Fundraising Manager for Bayside Health Kerry Redmond acknowledged the great work the auxiliaries do in securing vital equipment for the hospital.

“Past fundraising has enabled the hospital to purchase syringe drivers used in palliative care and a resus cot (neonatal resuscitation unit) for the Maternity Department,” said Ms Redmond.

The whole community is encouraged to attend the fete to enjoy the planned festivities and directly contribute to a vital local cause. Many donations have been received for the major raffle on the day including a water feature and $1,300 in vouchers.

“Come along and support the hospital on Saturday October 31,” said Ms Tucker.

“Doors open at 9am with lots of stalls, a sausage sizzle and freshly made scones.”

This year the fete has moved to the Wonthaggi Senior Citizens Club in Murray Street.
