A HEALTH motivation event for senior men of Bass Coast and South Gippsland will be held at the Leongatha Men’s Shed on October 27 from 10am to 12pm.
The Leongatha Men’s Shed is fortunate to have as guest speaker, Mr. Julian Walker, a professional myotherapist.
A myotherapist’s training enables them to treat myofascial pain and dysfunction (pain that arises from the muscles and surrounding connective tissue) using a variety of evidence-based treatment techniques. The treatments often include a take-home exercise prescription, a pain management plan, load management and activity/lifestyle modifications for long-term results.
Julian will be addressing the importance of musculoskeletal health of which maintaining muscle strength is an important part of extending and maintaining the quality of life.
Following Julian’s address, attendees will understand the keys to improving the functioning of the body and how simple exercise is an important part of that, especially as we age.
In support of the health event and men’s health generally, the Leongatha Men’s Shed are promoting, organising and conducting an innovative simple exercise program over a six-week period that will optimistically kick-start senior men in our community to a life of improved health as they age.
In recognition of the health agenda by the Leongatha Men’s Shed, local business AW Smith & Sons Hardware is fully supporting the initiative by sponsoring the program with a $400 prize to encourage participation in the health event.
Hence, in recognition of this community support, the venture is named the AW Smith & Sons Hardware ‘Gift’ (not to be confused with the Stawell Gift)

To qualify for the end prize, each person enrols in the program by paying a $20 fee.
The enrolment fee becomes a commitment to the program to complete exercises during the six-week period using the Leongatha Men’s Shed for the simple circuit exercises and the close proximity of the Velodrome for the walking exercise.
Both the walking and the simple circuit exercises are conducted at the persons discretion and pace involving a minimum of 15 laps overall of the Velodrome (approximately 5 minutes per lap) and a minimum of 15 sets of circuit exercises overall (of approximately 10-minute duration for each set) on Shed open hours.
Should the person complete his commitment, his fee will be fully refunded, and he will go in the draw for the AW Smith & Sons Hardware ‘Gift’ prize to be drawn at the Christmas event being held at the shed on Friday December 15. All participants in the program are invited to this event to celebrate their achievement.
Registrations forms with full information are available from the Leongatha Men’s Shed and AW Smith & Sons Hardware until the end of November.
The program is open to all senior men from Bass Coast and South Gippsland communities.
The Leongatha Men’s Shed look forward to welcoming interested men to the morning’s session. Bring along a mate!
