BASED on a brief created with students from the Korumburra Secondary College, a mural will be painted by local artist Melanie Caple and will be commencing soon.
Selected following a public voting process, Melanie’s initial concept for the Korumburra mural project encapsulates birdlife and floral elements that are specific to the area. These species include a double-barred finch, flame robin, silver-eye, golden whistler and red-browed finch which are thoughtfully positioned on top of native flora such as gladioli blooms and gingko leaves to create contrast, forming a bold impactful mural. It received 56 per cent of the votes.
The mural will be painted on the external wall of 42 Commercial Street and will bring the blank brick structure to life.
Melanie is renowned for creating expansive exterior murals and she has refined her craft to seamlessly blending art with the urban landscape. Her unique creative approach captures the essence of native flora and fauna in a way that captivates the viewer time and time again.
The mural project is expected to commence early 2024.
Councillor Clare Williams, Mayor South Gippsland Shire Council said,
“I would like to thank all of the entrants who each came up with wonderful mural concepts and congratulate Melanie on her successful design. We look forward to seeing the final concept and watching it come to life over the next months.”
