AFL legends draw full house at Phillip Island RSL

More than 160 people packed the Phillip Island RSL for a sold-out Grand Final Breakfast for a chance to meet and listen to AFL legends Peter Daicos and Dustin Fletcher.

The pair joined guests in the ANZAC Room ahead of the AFL Grand Final, sharing stories from their playing careers and offering their predictions on who would take home the cup.

And between the two, there was plenty to revisit.

Daicos spoke about Grand Finals, career milestones and favourite moments on the field.

He also reflected on Collingwood star and son Nick Daicos’ recent Brownlow Medal win and what the achievement meant to their family.

Fletcher discussed his relationships with former Essendon teammates Mark McVeigh and James Hird.

He also gave an insight into the club’s coaching process and why he believes the future could be bright for the bombers.

The breakfast took place from 8.30am to 11.30am, leaving time for attendees to get home and watch what ended up being a classic Grand Final matchup.

Phillip Island RSL General Manager Christopher Simpson said the event was a proud moment for the club.

“It was a proud moment for the team and a job very well done,” he said.

“It was a fantastic day for the club and a memorable event held on a special weekend. Our staff did an amazing job, from marketing and promoting the event to setting up and delivering it with smiles on their faces.”

And the team is already looking ahead.

Following this year’s sold-out breakfast, the RSL hopes to welcome more big names next year.

“We look forward to building on this success and welcoming some great names to next year’s Grand Final Breakfast at the Phillip Island RSL,” said Mr Simpson.
