1 min read

GIPPSLAND’s first Orange Sky laundry pod has been opened at the Salvation Army in McKenzie St, Wonthaggi providing laundry facilities for those in need twice a week.

Marking Orange Sky’s 50th location Bass Coast Mayor Cr Rochelle Halstead officially opened the Wonthaggi laundry pod with the cutting of an orange ribbon followed by volunteers helping with the first load of laundry.

Mayor Cr Halstead said clean laundry gives people a sense of dignity.

Eighteen Orange Sky volunteers will assist with the operation of the laundry pod on Monday and Thursday mornings from 10am to midday at the rear of the Salvation Army in 149 McKenzie Street Wonthaggi.

The innovative Orange Sky laundry pod is a stand-alone structure fitted with two washing machines and two environmentally friendly dryers to provide a free laundry service and a space for conversation.

Orange Sky laundry pods offer more than just clean clothes.

“We’re here for anyone feeling lonely or disconnected, and we aim to create a space that’s supportive and inclusive,” said Ms. Anderson.

“People from all walks of life can find themselves doing it tough.

“It could be anyone in the community who has fallen on hard times.”

The Wonthaggi laundry pod was made possible through partnerships with Inverloch and Wonthaggi Rotary, the Salvation Army in Wonthaggi, Wonthaggi Neighbourhood Centre, Housing Matters and Bass Coast Community Foundation.
