PHILLIP Island Library and Gippsland Writers Network present award-winning Australian crime writer, Sandi Wallace, for a fiction writing workshop on Saturday, October 11, from 10:30 am until 1:30 pm. A one-day masterclass for aspiring and emerging writers to partake in practical exercises to hone their craft and focus on plot, character and setting for short and long-form fiction.
“The workshop aims to provide practical exercises for participants,” said Sandi.
“Whilst I encourage everyone to share their ideas, there is no need to. The whole idea is to have fun and enjoy the journey – there is no better way to learn as a writer than to push your boundaries; keep striving, learning and growing.
“Whether your goal is publication or not, the workshop isn't about bringing your work with you but instead bringing your questions, because there will be plenty of time for questions and discussion.”
In an interview with Sandi, she explained that the good thing about writing is that there’s no qualification other than your love for it. As a young girl, Sandi knew she wanted to be a crime writer and said that age is no barrier when it comes to writing.
Sandi published her debut novel, Tell Me Why, in 2014, the first novel of the Georgie Harvey and John Franklin series. She went on to win the Davitt Award Readers' Choice in 2015 and was shortlisted for the Davitt Award for Best Debut.
She has also earned several Scarlet Stiletto Awards and commendations and been a finalist in other contests for her short crime fiction. Sandi now has six published titles, and her latest work, a psychological suspense thriller inspired by her sea change to Millowl / Phillip Island, will be released later this year.
