Government amps up Ocean Sounds with $80,000 live music grant

1 min read

PHILLIP Island’s Ocean Sounds has secured more than $80,000 in funding from the Albanese Government for its 2025 edition.

It’s part of the Government’s $2.7 million injection into Australia’s music industry – which will fund 37 music festivals across the country.

Ocean Sounds has become a hit with locals and visitors for both its live music and beautiful surrounds. The festival has attracted big acts from across the country – including this year’s headliners Xavier Rudd and Spiderbait.

Senator for Victoria Jess Walsh said the funding was another way the Albanese Government is backing the Australian music industry.
“Festivals like Ocean Sounds are the lifeblood of our live music sector and the local jobs they create,” Senator Walsh said.

“I’m looking forward to seeing many more music lovers flock to Phillip Island for Ocean Sounds early next year.”

The event is run by the Hills Are Alive Group, which run festivals across Australia.

Their Co-Founder Rhett McLaren said the 2025 festival will directly support 175 workers with more than half of these workers being local.
“Ocean Sounds allows for friends and families to connect while enjoying their local area, bonding over music, food and all-round good times!” Mr McLaren said.

“Our 2025 festival will provide paid opportunities for 175 workers across music, arts, events, tourism, and hospitality.

“This funding will allow the event to continue in 2025 and ensure Ocean Sounds becomes an ongoing annual event for Phillip Island and the Australian live music scene."
