Mentorship opportunity for young local artists

1 min read

YOUNG local creatives are encouraged to submit an Expression of Interest to participate in an arts-based mentorship program with internationally acclaimed artist Hiroyasu Tsuri, commonly known as TWOONE.

The Japanese artist’s practice encompasses painting, sculpture, photography, video and sound installations, and performance.

Known for large-scale murals around the world, his works are also featured in institutions such as The National Gallery of Australia, the Straat Museum in Amsterdam, and the Museum of Urban and Contemporary Art (MUCA) in Munich.

The mentorship program is a key feature of South Gippsland Shire Council’s ArtCubes Mural Project, enabled by the State Government’s FReeZA Youth Activation Fund.

This Project will see a new mural painted on the exterior of all three ArtCubes, as well as on-site mentorship for one or two local emerging or aspiring creatives.

TWOONE has been selected to complete the ArtCube mural and will provide mentorship during that process.

The exact dates of the mentorship will be decided by the artist and mentee/s, but will be at some stage between July 21 and August 3.

The mentorship program not only allows participants to observe and learn about the artistic process involved in creating a large-scale mural but also provides personalised guidance and feedback.

Council notes that the program is designed to foster creativity, enhance artistic techniques, and inspire the next generation of artists.

If you are a South Gippsland artist, creative or someone who is interested in developing your skills in making large-scale artworks, and you are aged between 18 and 25, please apply at southgippsland.vic.gov.au/artcubes-mural

More information about the ArtCubes can be found at visitsouthgippsland.com.au/artcubes and you can explore hiroyasutsuri.com to learn more about the artist and his work.

“I look forward to seeing the reimagined ArtCubes and the positive impact this mentorship will have on our budding young artists,” Mayor John Schelling said.
