Mycelia Renewables awarded Bank Australia’s customer community grant

1 min read

WONTHAGGI-BASED renewable energy charity and social enterprise, Mycelia Renewables Ltd, has been selected as a recipient of Bank Australia’s annual community customer grant program.

Mycelia Renewables is focused on supporting and enabling rural communities, First Nations people, and businesses to participate in and benefit from a regenerative economy, particularly in the transition to renewable energy. Bank Australia has awarded $20,000 towards their Mycelia Energy Collective program.

The Mycelia Energy Collective program helps households experiencing disadvantage and vulnerability to improve energy efficiency, comfort, and reduce energy costs. The program provides free energy assessments and financial support for energy efficiency and electrification upgrades tailored to each household’s needs and financial situation.

Mycelia Renewables’ Managing Director Moragh Mackay said, “It’s an area of great need and has such positive impacts for participants, yet it’s a part of the energy transition that gets the least amount of recognition and funding support. We’re thrilled with the support from Bank Australia and their recognition of the importance of this work.”

A project partner to Mycelia Renewables, Alyson Skinner, from the Venus Bay Community Centre, said, “We are pleased to be working with Mycelia on initiatives that directly support the district of Tarwin Lower, Venus Bay and Walkerville. The aims of the project align with our Community Plan for Community Energy. Working together on a fair, equitable, and just energy transition that includes everyone sits at the heart of projects like this.”

As a customer-owned and B Corp certified bank, Bank Australia’s annual community customer grants are for community customers working in impact areas that matter most to its customers, such as nature and biodiversity, climate action, and First Nations Recognition and Respect.
