THE first ‘Local Flavours Food and Drink Showcase’ at Berninneit last Sunday was a roaring success with organisers already setting up to return next year, bigger and better.
Destination Phillip Island in partnership with Bass Coast Shire Economic Development Team organised the event to showcase local producers from Phillip Island and Bass Coast and are already planning to expand it with art and music next year.
Supported by Agriculture Victoria through its Vic Grown Regional Activations Grant it featured local food and drink producers not only selling their produce but also talking up the fantastic fare available locally via interviews with guest host, chef Shane Delia.
“We’ve made a great start, I think, and the community has really responded, not just the producers, but also the local residents and visitors,” said Destination Phillip Island General Manager Kim Storey.
“We’re taking video and images of the event today to use when promoting next year’s event, so yes, definitely, we’ll be back next year.
“We’ve been careful to develop the template this year and we’ll be looking to expand it further next year into art and music.”
Speaking about the event, Mayor Cr Rochelle Halstead said it was a great use of the new Berninneit space, and she’d like to see more activation at the front of the building and in the courtyard at the rear next time.
