NEWHAVEN College’s production of Xanadu is a glittering, tongue-in-cheek celebration of dreams, destiny and disco-drenched romance, captivating audiences with its outrageous charm and infectious energy. Inspired by the cult 1980 film, Xanadu was transformed into a dazzling Broadway musical that lovingly parodies both Greek mythology and roller-skating ’80s excess. The College cast and crew are thrilled to bring this whimsical and joyfully absurd journey to life.
Through the fantastical tale of Kira, a muse from Mount Olympus who descends to Earth to inspire a struggling artist, Xanadu explores themes of creative passion, the courage to follow one’s heart, and the magic that can arise when we dare to embrace the ridiculous. Equal parts satire and sincere celebration, this musical rollercoaster reminds us that sometimes, even the wildest dreams are worth chasing.
Newhaven College has a rich and vibrant history in the Performing Arts. The talented cast, musicians and crew draw from that established culture of excellence, adding their own unique energy and skills to this school production.
Newhaven College’s production of Xanadu could easily hold its own on a professional stage - every element, from the acting, music, to the set design, being exceptional.
