NEWHAVEN College’s recent $8 million Performing Arts Wing is not only award winning but has become a key asset for the community and college.
Opening in 2022, the modern facility has hosted a number of events for students and various performing arts groups.
“It was a much overdue facility for our school and community,” Newhaven College Principal Tony Corr said.
“The key features of the build are a black box theatre with seating of up 140 and concertina seating so you can move it in and out.
“It’s a fully equipped theatre with light and audio set ups and it also has an acoustically designed rehearsal room.”
Mr Corr also highlighted there’s a sizable foyer space with a box office, which has been utilised by the Artists’ Society of Phillip Island.
“What I’ve been really pleased about is the uptake from the community, and the Artists’ Society of Phillip Island have requested to make it a regular exhibition space,” he said.
“We’ve had a number of visiting artists as well and we’re very open to public use.”
As part of stage 2 of the arts wing, the college hopes to add an additional 450 seat auditorium, which could be within the next five years. Mr Corr highlighted the recent award for the building was a great surprise and credit to TS Constructions and the architects, as well as the college’s project committee who sourced the funding which was supported by the Federal Government.
