COMBINING a raw sound of the 70s with modern funk pop sounds, and a focus on creating high energy, is local band, The Foxy Junes – they are as fun to watch as they are to listen to and will open the fourth Arockalypse at the Westernport Hotel on August 2.

Consisting of Imran Saadiqzai on Drums, Orlando Kane-Guillard playing guitar and vocals, Jonah van Stekelenburg, vocals and keys, Kirby Fuller on bass and vocals and Cinnamon Laddin-Catron on guitar and vocals.

Beginning as a band to accompany Jonah’s solo musical journey as Vann Amos. Members of The Foxy Junes realised their sound worked better as a collaboration, and they decided to change their name and become a full shared load band.

“When we were asked to play under Vann Amos at a University ball for Melbourne Uni’s paramedic students. We created a set that had us all taking lead on different tracks and having equal input on the set list. When we played together, we found that we were able to bounce off each other and lift each other's playing and energy,” said The Foxy Junes, Johan.

What started as a miscommunication of ‘The Foxy Dunes’ turned into the band’s new name, ' The Foxy Junes’, where the band found more meaning behind the misinterpretation. “We found that it aligned with what young local musicians experience when beginning gigs.”

Exploring a variety of themes, from love and heartbreak to high-energy partying, the band have different songwriting processes. “For some tracks, one of us will bring in an almost complete song which we will just build upon, sometimes we will sit together as a band and improvise on sounds we think match our sound and work to flesh out a song that gives an equal opportunity for us all to perform within.

“We are currently working on a few new tracks and getting into a studio soon.”

The Foxy Junes said after attending a few Arockalypse festivals, it was a huge honour to be asked to participate in the fourth Arockalypse. “We love having the support of events like these and working with such amazing bands and creating an amazing, supportive network.”
