Could you be Coal Creek's next tourism star?

LOCAL actors are being invited to bring 10 Coal Creek characters to life for a new virtual experience at the Korumburra heritage village.

South Gippsland Shire Council is calling for expressions of interest from actors, experienced or aspiring, to portray one of the characters, which will appear on dedicated tablets at the park.

Filming will take place across three days in September with local filmmaker Seagrass Films.

Each successful actor will be paid $500 and costumes will be provided.

Actors are encouraged to read the scripts before applying and can put their hand up for one or more characters.

Expressions of interest close on Sunday, August 30.

South Gippsland Shire Council Mayor Cr Nathan Hersey said the project was about telling the local story.

“This project is essentially about telling and sharing our local story and will provide another way for the community and visitors alike to become immersed in the history of Coal Creek and experience what makes South Gippsland so great,” Cr Hersey said.

“This is an excellent opportunity for our local actors to share part of our story and be recognised for sharing their talent with us.”

The project is funded through the State Government Department of Education’s Strategic Partnerships Program.

Council said the experience would also strengthen the park’s education programs and learning opportunities.

Coal Creek Community Park and Museum opened at Korumburra in 1974 and recreates life in a South Gippsland coal mining village from the 1870s to the 1920s.

The council-run open-air museum became an accredited museum in 2014 and entry is free.
