Fire in ceiling during construction works at Wonthaggi Workmen’s Club

Firefighters are working to bring a fire under control at the Wonthaggi Workmen's Club with people having been evacuated.

THERE is currently a fire in the roof of the Wonthaggi Workmen’s Club with smoke earlier seen escaping from the top front of the building.

It’s believed over 100 people were inside at the time and have been safely evacuated.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage with Fire Investigation to examine.

Construction work is currently being undertaken at the site.

Local firefighters from Wonthaggi, Inverloch and Dalyston are on scene with police blocking traffic in both directions along Graham Street between McKenzie Street and McBride Avenue.

AV have also attended along with Bass Coast Group Rehab.
