Mirboo North ‘hardest hit’ says Leongatha SES Unit

1 min read

BY MIDNIGHT on Tuesday night, the Leongatha SES Unit had logged 79 emergency callouts and more have come in today.

According to Unit Controller at SES Leongatha, Matt Saario, the worst hit area appears to be Mirboo North, but with crews still out in the field, responding to and assessing the damage, the complete picture of the devastation is only just emerging.

“There are a number of locations were roofs are off or parts of roofs and there are a lot of trees down,” Mr Saario said today.

“At the peak last night, we had 20 people out in the field, working with CFA, the council and other authorities.

“We’ve still got 13 people and a number of crews out there responding today. There’s a lot to do.”

Mr Saario said the Leongatha SES was responsible for an area from Nyora to Meeniyan, where some of the worst damage from Tuesday’s storm had been recorded.
