Dylan Muir and Bayley Nicholas hope to see a great turnout for Wednesday evening’s swimming pool meeting at the Korumburra Middle Hotel.

CAMPAIGNS to save local pools from closure continue to gather momentum with the recent well-attended community forum run by Friends of Poowong Pool to be followed by a meeting at Korumburra’s Middle Hotel on Wednesday October 21.

“We’re holding a community information night to update everyone on what we’re working on behind the scenes regarding the future of Korumburra swimming pool,” co-organiser Bayley Nicholas stated on Facebook.

What’s been discovered, discussions held so far and potential options moving forward will be on the agenda.

The session, which will include a number of community groups, provides an opportunity for community members to ask questions and share ideas.

Everyone is welcome and organisers, Mr Nicholas and Dylan Muir, would love to see as many people there as possible.

“Let’s work together to secure the future of our 50-metre pool,” Mr Nicholas said.

While Sentinel-Times attended a previous meeting that included discussion of the importance of Korumburra outdoor pool to those in the town and the local region, that gathering was just prior to council releasing its Aquatics Options Paper.

Community consultation on that Paper runs until December 6 with everyone encouraged to study the document and have their say.

Wednesday evening’s Korumburra information session begins at 7.30pm at Korumburra Middle Hotel.

Sentinel-Times reported last week that the Poowong pool forum attracted over 100 people, with Friends of Poowong Pool spokesperson Desirae Hancock remarking, “The community has made it clear that it wants to be part of the conversation and part of the solution.”

As previously outlined, the Aquatic Options Paper acknowledges council hasn’t ruled out closing one or more of the six shire pools it manages, and just as in Poowong many in Korumburra are expressing strong support for keeping their pool.
