Alternative to hard solutions

I AM currently in Bali at Kuta beach somewhere I have been visiting for over 40 years. Specifically the true Kuta end Poppies 1 and 2. This is one of the most famous strips of sand in the world for tourism, surfing and beach amenity i.e. walking, sun baking, etc.

In recent times because of erosion many reasons why this may have occurred but most likely its decisions made to protect infrastructure further up the beach. A hard rock wall has been put in place.

Within four years there is no sand left, all the beach is never dry, surfing has been destroyed and the sand that is still there is hard and steep and the economic impact has been massive to vendors, surf schools and tourism.

It is my strong belief as a 45 plus year resident who has much of their recreational life based around the beach amenity and waves of our main beach that we must do everything we can to save our beach, but the hard solution must be the last possible option.

Please we should try what is planned for September/October but that shouldn’t be the end, try an artificial reef, permanent sand pumping, realignment of the inlet channel to recreate the easterly drift and so many other possible less hard options.
