Planning submissions and open government

I READ with interest your story regarding the relocation of the planning submission from Meeniyan to Korumburra. What the council does not address is those public responders who were unavailable to an attend at the original date and place in Meeniyan have not been given the option to attend at the new venue and time.

You state that the public submissions to council are not to be open to the public, how does this comply with the planning submission application as posted in your paper, shown below.

The planning application statement:

The planning authority must make a copy of every submission available at its office and/or its website for any person to inspect free of charge until the end of the two months after the amendment comes into operation or lapses.

It states every submission in the application, which by definition includes verbal submissions. i.e.. public disclosure and open government guidelines. Will reporters from your paper be able to attend?

Elsewhere this appears to be the case, why not in South Gippsland?
