Weekend traffic reality check for shire

1 min read

FROM your scathing editorial highlighting the ineptitude of Bass Coast Shire in the October 1 edition of the Sentinel-Times there was one short paragraph that gave me a warm glow. They (the Shire ?) have called for a $1 million to design “an alternative freight route” through Wonthaggi.

The good news is that they don’t have to spend a cent. The route already exists. It’s called the Bass Highway. The problem seems to be that no-one has the will or the good sense to get Regional Roads Victoria to build the missing section between Korumburra Road and Kirrak Road.

This would make a huge difference to Wonthaggis’ already congested domestic roads. As all the vehicles that regard Wonthaggi as an impediment to a good journey and not a destination will be able to bypass the city centre. The road reserve is there already. So, who’s holding up the process? Perhaps our new councillors will have a little more vision and a lot fewer daydreams.
