Welshpool Hotel thanks the community amid ongoing challenges

1 min read

THE Welshpool Hotel is making progress in the hospitality industry, despite still being on a long road to recovery from the storm that swept through South Gippsland in 2023.

Owner Skye Dubignon is very grateful that, after experiencing the floods and still having damage to the hotel, the Welshpool Hotel was named a finalist in the Australian Hotels Association (AHA) Victoria 2025 State Awards for Excellence: Excellence in Service, Heart of the Community, Local Legend Award, and Parma of the Year – Regional.

“Where do I begin? Our parma and menu scored 100 per cent in the judging for the Parma of the Year, but unfortunately, the venue let us down in achieving that perfect overall score,” said Skye.

“It was a great night. I took the team down to Crown Casino to celebrate our achievements.”

As the recovery efforts continue, despite the setback, Skye remains hopeful and thankful.

“We’re incredibly grateful for the community. Everyone’s been so patient, sticking by us and offering their support during such a tough time,” she said.

In the face of adversity, the town came together once again for its annual Good Friday Appeal fundraising event, setting an ambitious goal of $10,000 – doubling last year’s target. Thanks to a series of popular events – including the 25 Days of Gifting Christmas Advent Calendar, the Wall of Wine, and Friday night raffles – the community not only reached but exceeded the goal, raising an impressive $10,534.35.

“To beat our goal in a year like this just shows how incredible and supportive our community is.”

As flood recovery continues, Skye expresses gratitude to the community for sticking with her and the team as they manage repairs and hope to bring back the warmth to the Welshpool Hotel.
