EMPLOYMENT opportunities are plentiful in the towns of Bass Coast with the Bass Coast Shire Council in conjunction with the Australian Government’s Local Jobs Program, South Gippsland Bass
Coast Local Learning and Employment Network, and the State Government’s Skills and Jobs Centre hosting the annual jobs expo.
This is the second year the shire has presented the Local Jobs Expo, this year with further events and programs on offer over a two-week period until October 12.
The Cowes Local Jobs Expo was held at St John’s Uniting Church on Wednesday morning commencing at 9:30am with Tafe Gippsland staff holding a free sausage sizzle for the public on arrival.
Business owners in Bass Coast and surrounds were invited to register their employment opportunities to be presented on the public jobs board for prospective applicants to apply.
Fiona Bristow of Tafe Gippsland welcomed the public to the annual expo, inviting them to discuss their future employment prospects with local recruits or seek assistance from team members from the Skills and Jobs Centres.
“Our team, work with job seekers of all ages, getting them job ready, whether it be working on resumes or applications, or even providing course advice.”
This year there was an ample number of opportunities in education, hospitality, tourism, health care, and agriculture, as well as professional services, traineeships, and apprenticeships.
“There is no shortage of career opportunity in Bass Coast,” said Andrea of Tafe Gippsland.
Bass Coast Health have a range of career prospects for those looking at clinical care or administrative work, especially after the opening of the new Wonthaggi hospital, and the number of support services available for aged care and in-home support is abundant.
Veronica McLeod of Dairy Australia was too in attendance showcasing the job vacancies for those looking for a career in the dairy industry and expanding their support to farmers in attracting new workers with the launch of the Dairy Farm Jobs Board.
Bass Coast Shire Council hopes to fill job vacancies for businesses showcasing local career pathways and providing networking opportunities for business owners and facilitate skills development for staff or potential staff.
To help strengthen the community and get people back into the workforce, an additional expo will be held in Wonthaggi, and a small business mentoring clinic will be held in Inverloch.
