SEEMS strange for the Senior Football Qualifying Final in the Gippsland League, between Traralgon and Moe, to be held at Maffra next Saturday, August 30, away from the population centre in the Latrobe Valley.
The choice of venues was hotly criticized on TRFM’s Gippsland Live program last Saturday.
But, when you consider Traralgon’s ground is out of action while building works progress, and both venues at Morwell and Moe will be used the following week for the semi-finals, with Morwell the grand final venue; there may not have been much option.
Next Sunday’s round of finals will be hosted by Wonthaggi.
Leongatha teams will feature in four finals at Maffra next Saturday; the Leongatha Reserves, Thirds and B Grade netball teams against Moe and local rivals, Leongatha and Wonthaggi facing off in the C Grade netball qualifying final.
On Sunday at Wonthaggi, the local Wonthaggi Power Reserves will have the home-ground advantage against Maffra, and would expect to be strengthened by six or more players dropping back from the Seniors after the club used 38 players in the top team this year.
Leongatha will have two netball teams in Sunday’s games at Wonthaggi, their Under 17 and Under 15 netball teams playing Drouin and Warragul respectively.
The following week, Leongatha’s Seniors and Under 13 netball teams, together with Wonthaggi’s B Grade netballers have already booked their places in the Second Semi-Final at Morwell on Saturday September 6.
