Meat still available in Leongatha

1 min read

Leongatha Fresh Meat and Fish Supplies was able to continue feeding hungry locals thanks to the delivery of a large generator on Wednesday morning.

A small generator wouldn’t be up to the task, with the business requiring three-phase power.

“We were lucky enough to pick one up from S G Hire,” butcher shop owner Rod Spokes said.

“We can sell meat and cut stuff up for people; we’re not going to let them go hungry, he declared.

With Aldi and IGA forced to close on Wednesday and Woolworths also unable to power its refrigeration, the butcher store was the only spot in town for meat.

The store lost minimal stock overnight, with some items moved into the freezer and the cool room maintained at a safe temperature by keeping the door closed and using ice bags.

With the generator only able to power refrigeration, some tasks such as sausage making had to be put on hold.
