THE occupants of two cars involved in a head-on collision at the corner of McKenzie Street and Church Street in Cowes have walked away with minor injuries on Tuesday night, January 16.
Locals say they heard a loud bang at around 9.30pm and came out to investigate, finding a late-model BMW and dark coloured ute had come to grief at the intersection, before raising the alarm.
A large number of SES and ambulance personnel rolloed out in response and Church Street was closed off while the injured were attended to, and the cars towed away.
It was an otherwise slow, quiet and steamy night in Cowes with few cars on the streets after what had been the warmest day of the summer and a busy beach day for many.
