TWELVE passengers and the driver of a VLine bus have escaped uninjured after the bus they were travelling in plunged down an embankment on Fish Creek Foster Road, Foster shortly before midday on Monday this week.
The VLine 9.02am coach from Southern Cross to Yarram was left balancing precariously over the edge of the road reserve between trees, needing an additional salvage truck to stabilise the vehicle so that it could be safely recovered.
Speaking at the scene on Monday afternoon, Leading Senior Constable Adam Pagram said that while he couldn’t comment on the cause of the crash, all 12 passengers, and the driver escaped uninjured.
Some other news services have reported 12 occupants of the bus in total. LSC Pagram told the Sentinel-Times there were 12 passengers and the driver, 13 occupants in all.
“The concern is that if they were to drag it backwards, with it leaning to one side, it could tilt down further and fall, so they are waiting for another truck to arrive,” said LSC Pagram.
A Country Fire Authority spokesperson said two CFA units attended the scene, Foster and Fish Creek, along with Fire Rescue Victoria and Ambulance Victoria.
"Upon arrival, crews found a bus sitting on angle, approximately 2.5 metres down an embankment," the spokesperson said.
