SOUTH Gippsland Shire Council is excited and appreciative to have been recognised at last week’s LGPro Awards in Melbourne.

Council won the Corporate and Community Planning award for Shaping South Gippsland, which was a significant community engagement project that helped to develop South Gippsland’s Community Vision and four-year Council Plan.

Delivered over eight months in late 2021 and early 2022, the project involved nine pop-ups at community events, two school pop-ups, surveys and workshops, as well as extensive online engagement.

In total Council received 2939 comments as a result of the consultation, which were used to determine the Community Vision, and Council Plan actions and objectives.

Council also received a high commendation for the Mirboo North Pool refurbishment which was in the Community Assets & Infrastructure Initiative (projects over $5m) category.

The application highlighted the important collaboration between Council and the Mirboo North community and the social benefits the new facility can provide.

The shire was also a finalist in the Community Partnerships category for the Local Men, Local Community project. This is an important project which focuses on building mental health, well-being and social connectedness for rural men aged 25 plus. It also provides links to services and supports for people at risk of suicide.

The awards were held in Melbourne and hosted by LGPro which is the leading professional association for Local Government officers in Victoria.
