AT THIS weekend’s Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix, volunteers from the Rotary Club of Phillip Island and San Remo took on the huge task of managing parking for thousands of motorcycles and cars at the Phillip Island Circuit.
Clad in bright orange safety jackets, Rotary’s dedicated team worked tirelessly to direct traffic and assist arriving spectators, ensuring a smooth and safe entry despite the unpredictable spring weather. Their efforts weren’t just about logistics — every dollar raised from their work will go directly to the Rotary Rehabilitation Courtyard at the new Phillip Island Community Hospital in Cowes.
Despite gusty winds, sudden showers, and bursts of sunshine, the Rotarians remained upbeat and professional throughout the weekend. Visitors were greeted with warm smiles, clear directions, and genuine community spirit as cars poured steadily into the grass paddocks.
Their efforts embodied Rotary’s enduring motto, “Service Above Self,” turning a demanding operational role into a visible act of community service at one of Australia’s premier sporting events.
Funds raised through the MotoGP parking program will help complete the Rotary Rehabilitation Courtyard — a tranquil outdoor space designed to bring comfort and dignity to patients and families at the new hospital.
Rotary Club President Gea Lovell said seeing the courtyard come to life has been a highlight for the club. “We thank Fred Reinking, of Dome Security, for once again involving our club she said.
With their high-vis jackets now hung up until next year, the Phillip Island and San Remo Rotarians have once again shown that teamwork, generosity, and community spirit can turn a parking paddock into a powerful driver for local good.
