SUNDAY, May 11 is Mother’s Day, as if you didn’t know that already!
Most mums would rather your presence than presents on Mother’s Day but the time-honoured gift on mums’ special day is still flowers and right across Bass Coast and South Gippsland local florists and flower sellers are gearing up for their biggest day of the year.
And in most cases, it’s not too late to rush in this Saturday or even on Sunday morning to grab a bunch and a card ahead of the big day.
Maxifora flower farm at Newhaven on Phillip Island isn’t a newcomer to the flower industry in Australia having been established here since 1986 but they are a relative newcomer to officially offering farm retail sales.
They opened their farm store in December 2024, on Phillip Island Road right near the entrance to Churchill Island, survived the summer season and a bumper Valentine’s Day to be ready for an even bigger weekend, including Mother’s Day this weekend.
Opening times:
- Saturday, May 10 – 8.30am-4pm
- Sunday [Mother’s Day] 8.30am-until sold out.
“We’ve boosted our supplies ready for Mother’s Day and we don’t expect to sell out but we did on Valentine’s Day so who knows,” said Layla Fahour at the Maxiflora Farm Sales store on Friday.
The shop is a riot of colours with Maxiflora augmenting their popular varieties of flowers with some Mother’s Day classics. See also their website at: https://www.maxiflora.com.au/
You can say it with flowers but here’s a few other ideas:
- Pamper Hampers: Gift boxes filled with items like chocolates, bath products, candles, and tea are very popular, offering a mix of indulgence and relaxation.
- Flowers: A classic and heartfelt option—fresh bouquets of seasonal flowers (like roses, lilies, or native blooms) remain a top choice.
- Personalized Gifts: Items engraved or printed with names, initials, or special messages—such as photo frames, mugs, or jewellery—make meaningful keepsakes.
- Homemade Brunch or Lunch: Many Australians opt to prepare a home-cooked meal, like a breakfast spread or roast lunch, to show appreciation through effort and time.
- Spa or Massage Vouchers: Giving the gift of relaxation through a massage, facial, or day spa voucher is a popular way to help mums unwind and feel cared for.
- Jewellery: Timeless and thoughtful, pieces like earrings, necklaces, or rings (especially if personalised or symbolic) are commonly gifted.
- Experience Gifts: Experiences such as wine tastings, art classes, scenic tours & cruises, cooking workshops or even helicopter rides are a growing trend for creating lasting memories.
- Home Fragrance & Décor: Candles, diffusers or decorative items for the home are simple yet appreciated gifts that add ambiance and beauty.
- Books or Journals: A new novel, a beautiful journal, or a guided gratitude book is perfect for mums who enjoy reading or reflection.
- Subscription Boxes: Monthly deliveries of tea, beauty products, snacks, or hobby kits continue to grow in popularity, offering something to look forward to.
