Thoughts bubble up at Korumburra community forum

1 min read

THE Korumburra Community Hub was alive with discussion and ideas on Sunday morning, March 24 as the town staged its third ‘Helping Hands Korumburra Staying Strong’ community forum supported by the South Gippsland Shire Council and the Foundation for Rural Regional Renewal.

As well as being informative about what’s going on in the town at the moment, the forum also provided community members with the opportunity to participate in a number of exercises that focused on how to take the next steps with some of the Korumburra ideas that were put forward on day.

A report will be produced to detail the project ideas and how to make progress on the various opportunities.

Local shire councillor Jenni Keerie was full of praise for the turnout and the enthusiasm on display.

“There were more than 60 people in attendance, so it was a terrific response on a Sunday, plenty of discussion and lots of great ideas,” Cr Keerie said.

The forum considered such diverse ideas as auditing the district’s readiness for emergencies, especially in response to the impact of climate change, and ‘taking pride in the past, present and future’ of Koruburra looking at a such ideas as a railway museum, the future of Cook’s Hill and footpath extensions into the industrial estate.

Those attending the forum had an opportunity to contribute ideas in a range of subject areas as a precursor to developing strategies and plans to support the growth of the town, including jobs, services and infrastructure.
