Wild storms and high tides lash the Bass Coast

1 min read

WITH each renourishment event at the Inverloch SLSC costing Bass Coast Council between $20,000 and $30,000 little wonder this week’s wild storms have been a major worry for ratepayers and local residents alike.

Replacing the beach sand lost during high tides and storm surges is having a noticeable impact on Bass Coast Shire’s bottom line with the cost of each sand renourishment event varying with the scale of plant and equipment required.

Being such a dynamic coastline according to Bass Coast Council the final cost of sand renourishment works is often determined once the contractor has arrived on the day.

A strong wind warning has been issued for the Central Gippsland coast with abnormally high tides and possible flooding of low-lying coastal areas. Rainfall is expected to be between 5 and 10mm with winds shifting north-westerly to south-westerly.
