POLICE arrested two men in separate incidents at Woolamai and Leongatha on the morning of Friday October 9.

At Woolamai, officers searching a large rural property for an offender found and arrested a man who had been hiding in nearby bushland, with help from the Police Air Wing.

Later that morning, police received several reports from Leongatha residents about a man allegedly trying to open doors at homes.

Officers responded and located the man, and a search allegedly uncovered suspected stolen property in his possession.

Both men were remanded in custody to appear in court at a later date.

In a post on the Bass Coast Eyewatch Facebook page, police thanked the community for its vigilance and encouraged residents to keep reporting suspicious behaviour.

It has been a busy few weeks for local police, who are also dealing with a spate of stolen and burnt-out cars across Bass Coast and South Gippsland, with vehicles set alight at Loch, Poowong, Kardella, Rhyll, Darlimurla and Woolamai.

On Wednesday October 7, police also recovered two stolen Toyota LandCruisers, two stolen trailers and a stolen Kubota tractor after searching a Korumburra property.

Police have also used the Eyewatch page to urge drivers to “level up against car theft” by locking all doors and closing all windows, installing anti-theft devices, securing their keys and parking in a secure, well-lit area.

Anyone who sees suspicious activity can call the Police Assistance Line on 131 444, or Triple Zero (000) in an emergency.
