Each night many people who are homeless are forced to sleep outside in the cold. This year our Maru CEO Mr Ian Heffer is participating in the Vinnies CEO Sleepout held on the 20th of June in Melbourne. Hundreds of CEOs, business owners as well as community and government leaders sleep outdoors to support the many Australians who are experiencing homelessness and people at risk of homelessness. Each CEO Sleepout participant commits to raising funds to help Vinnies provide essential services to the people who need them.
To raise awareness of the homeless issue and help raise funds we are holding a special Pyjama day at Maru on the 13th of June. Our staff and volunteers will be wearing Pyjamas and Onesies and Maru will be promoting donations to this cause.
On this day 100% of all money received from individual visitors for entry and animal experiences will be donated to the cause.
When you visit your total will be calculated and then you will be asked to use the tablet provided at reception or your own phone to donate that same amount direct to the cause, instead of handing it to Maru. This also means that you will get a tax deductible receipt for your donation. If anyone instead chooses to still pay cash or card direct to Maru, then Maru will donate all of those funds direct to the cause at the end of the day.
We invite you to join us on this day and then not only will you get to enjoy the Maru animals and experiences, but also be donating towards helping provide services for the homeless. Feel free to join in the fun of the day by wearing your pjamas too!
