50 games for Hayden Purton in a huge weekend

1 min read

WONTHAGGI hosted the Bass Coast mini-hub junior soccer tournament over the weekend with over 30 teams from Wonthaggi, Inverloch, Phillip Island and Lang Lang taking the field and enjoying the amazing sunshine.

On Sunday it was the first home game of the season for the junior and senior teams as they welcomed Korumburra to the competition.

Wonthaggi had some great results across the day, but it was the introduction of a new division that provided some great entertainment for the crowd.

The Wonthaggi Under 15 girls although still short of a few players were supported by some under 12’s who were keen for more pitch time.

Amity, Ella and Hannah held their own in the older age group with Hannah taking the ball down the middle, time and time again.

Amity in the defence line took lots of opportunities for throw-ins and Tanna sent the ball flying whenever it came her way maintaining a strong defensive line.

Vivienne and Ella were strong in the midfield going in for the tackle and not backing out.

The girls worked well as a team but so did Korumburra with final result a 0-0 draw.

The Club is excited about the two new junior girls divisions but is still searching for players, training is held on Thursdays at 4.30pm at the Wonthaggi Recreation #2 oval.

Any girls born from 2015 who are interested in playing are invited to come along and see how much fun soccer can be.

Wonthaggi also celebrated a very exciting milestone with Hayden Purton playing his 50th junior competition game for Wonthaggi, having been with the Club since he was a Mini Roo Hayden is a valued member of the U14 team.
