Bronze medal for two Korumburra Wildcats

TWO Wildcat basketballers were represented on the Victorian team competing at the School Sport Australia National Championship in Brisbane recently.

Korumburra Basketball Association’s Billie Peterson and Ruby Mewett shared the great experience, playing from July 26 to August 1.

The team lost in the semi-final but won the bronze medal match.

Both Billie and Ruby felt their best game was the semi-final.

Ruby felt it was her best game in offence, whilst Billie was proud to have shot a number of threes and to have displayed the most determination through the game.

Ruby said he best defensive game was against Queensland, which was a lot more physical.

“The whole thing was an awesome experience. I don’t normally play as a big, and it was a good opportunity for me to try out that position. I think I did pretty well,” Ruby said.

“I’ve played against some of the girls before and they are all my friends as well. It was good to catch up with them and meet new people.

“The games were fast, so it was good to get that experience as well.”

The team was coached by Chris Clark, who was very knowledgeable and made the experience fun and worthwhile.

Both girls are currently playing in Korumburra’s VC Reserve side, looking for a grand final victory.

“It’s my first time playing VC and I’ve really loved playing with this team,” Billie said.

Billie has been playing with the Wildcats since U10s.

She has been an emergency for the Victorian team with Basketball Victoria for two years in a row and is working towards being named in the side.

Ruby has been playing for Casey this season, which is currently sitting on top of the ladder.

Whilst Ruby has aged out of playing SSV basketball next year, Billie was bottom age and said it was something she would definitely like to try out for again.
