Grand Ridge Rail Trail Winter Solstice’s parkrun

1 min read

LAST weekend, 28 people came together to enjoy the darkest morning of the year for the winter solstice parkrun event. With some fog haze and streaks of sunlight, a true community was gathered. The volunteer crew was beautifully organised chaos, tail walkers set up the gear, timekeepers and barcode scanners swapped roles, and even the run director switched halfway through the event. This surely gave visitors from Dandenong something to talk about.

Organisers look forward to their 250th parkrun event in Mirboo North on July 5. If Cliffy could get about in gumboots, they reckon they can do 5km in them (although people might still prefer their trail shoes and that's okay!). Rumours are being spread about a gumboot toss at the finish line!

Grand Ridge Rail Trail parkrun is very grateful to the volunteers who made this event happen: Libby Belton, Robert Gray, Julia Groves, Greg Lawrence, Mark Lynch, Carmel Quirk, Steve Quirk and Val Smith.
