ROUND 3 of the Gippsland Soccer League saw Leongatha Knights FC’s U17 Blue team host Drouin’s second U17s team at Mary MacKillop College, the home team coming out on top in a high-scoring affair.
Unseasonably warm weather ensured the players worked hard from the start to maintain momentum under the morning sun.
Leongatha’s consistently strong midfielder Patch started the scoring for the Knights with a beautiful volley.
He also converted the second goal from an excellent cross from the right wing from Daniel.
A late tackle in the box saw a penalty granted Leongatha’s way with Daniel calmly slotting home the goal.
Despite consistent pressure from the visitors, Leongatha led 4-0 at halftime.
Drouin came out strong in the second half with their left winger scoring three goals in quick succession.
Caught slightly off balance, the Knights were forced to work hard to regain their footing in the game.
Bede was instrumental in shutting down the Drouin goal scorer.
Though Drouin continued to work hard at consistently pressing, it was Leongatha’s DJ who slotted another home to see the Knights win 5-3.
