12 girls
THE under-12 girls battled it out in windy conditions, passing and defending well, but ultimately lost to their better Wonthaggi opponents.
15 girls
The Under 15 girls showed grit and determination in a hard-fought draw against Wonthaggi. Despite playing into the wind in the opening term, they were the first to score and set the tone early with relentless pressure. Every player dug deep to shut down Wonthaggi’s forward attacks, with strong teamwork and defensive efforts right across the ground. It was a gutsy performance from start to finish, and the girls should be proud of the way they held their ground and fought to the final whistle.
U14s.
The under-14 boys played hard and well, and despite a loss, they held their heads high right to the end. The two goals they scored were excellent and showed how well they work together as a team.
17s
In freezing, windy conditions, Korumburra’s Under 17s battled to a 3–2 win over Wonthaggi. Jonah was outstanding in goals, with Japheth and Sandaru controlling the midfield, while Denzel and Talon held a strong defence. Liam from 14s helped out with a great goal. A great team effort sealed the win.
Men
Round 11, Korumburra v Wonthaggi Senior Men kicked off with Burra’s first ever Friday night under lights match. The fire was going, the bar was open, and the grandstand roared as Podi hit 4 cracking goals from 30 yards in a masterful midfield performance. Juju was solid in defence, Hayden kicked three and set up Aiden for two, and a beautiful cross from Riley finished with a brilliant header from Jake capped off the win in a 10-5 victory that keeps Burra in the hunt for top spot.
Women
The senior women, fresh from their first victory of the year over Mirboo North last week, were keen and raring to go. With only nine on the pitch for Wonni, the first half was a dour struggle with their centre back repelling all Burra attacks and Zoe providing a threat for Wonni in the midfield. After half time, the Burra girls came out and dominated. Liv’s run from box to box, put through the birthday girl, Mel Allman, who sealed the win with a great run and finish. 2 on the trot for Burra 1-0.
