POOWONG welcomed Buln Buln in the U/16s and U/18s and Catani in the reserves and seniors with the ground good for football.
Poowong football and netballers players wore black umpires in remembrance of the passing of Club Life Member Bill McNally; Bill was a great respected clubman with many years of service to the club and community.
The Poowong club pass on their condolences to the McNally family.
The Magpies were forced to make two changes with Steve McInnes and Joel Norton out with injuries replaced by Connor Cunningham and Mitch Whiting.
Catani were well in the game and Poowong was in need of a couple of goals to take advantage of the breeze.
Fortunately, they came from Connor Cunningham from a free kick on the boundary and Will Robertson from the pocket to open up a 17 point lead.
Poowong started well when Jack Hazendonk picked up the ball in the pocket for a good goal, followed by Damien Hansen with a goal from a mark at CHF.
Poowong added a point but Catani were not giving up adding a minor and then from a good snap a goal to get back into the game.
Poowong’s coach asked his team to go back to the game plan and not allow Catani an opportunity to get back into the game.
Catani kicked their fourth from a free kick followed by a point, Mitch DeKleuver added a behind before Catani ran into goal for a six pointer with the margin
reduced to 16 points.
A great late goal from Mich Dekleuver on his left foot gave Poowong a 22 point lead at three quarter time.
Poowong’s Jack Hazendonk, Connor Cunningham, Andrew Logan and Alex Henshall were all playing well but Catani were determined and looking for a victory.
Unfortunately, the scoreboard clock was not started and Poowong supporters were nervous not aware of what time was left.
Poowong managed two points, Jack Hazendonk took a couple of match saving marks to help stem the tide.
Catani are rebuilding but will cause a few upsets in the rest of the season, while Poowong with this victory remain two games and percentage clear in fifth place with six wins.
But have to travel to Buln Buln to play the top side next Saturday, this will be a good test for the boys.
The fourths won their first game for the season after some near misses, the thirds suffering from injuries played well, the scoreboard was not a true indication of play.
The reserves played probably the best football for the season falling down in the last kick area.
Anyone looking for a game of football or Netball your most welcome.
Training is Tuesday and Thursday nights Poowong is a good club for families.
