A FANTASTIC turnout of 35 players filled the Phillip Island darts venue on Monday night, all united in remembrance for the annual Joseph Rizza Memorial event.
Eight spirited teams locked horns in a hard-fought round-robin tournament, battling through intense legs of 801 in a fitting tribute to a cherished member of the darts family.
The team comprised of the in-form Snow, the steady hand of Paul, the always-dangerous Gareth, the consistent Alby, and the sharp-shooting Shannon proved to be the dominant force of the evening.
Their synergy and skill shone brightly as they navigated the competition, racking up an impressive six victories while only succumbing to a single narrow defeat.
Their names will now be proudly inscribed on the Joseph Rizza Memorial Shield, a lasting testament to their performance on this special night.
The league extends a hearty congratulations to the winning team and to every player who participated, contributing to the event’s heartwarming atmosphere and solidifying its place as a permanent and significant date on the calendar.
Adding a touch of unexpected amusement to the evening’s proceedings was the remarkable win of league stalwart Bones Cleeland in the San Remo Butchers meat tray raffle.
After what can only be described as a persistent campaign of ticket purchases over many weeks, Bones’ luck finally turned. The image of Bones, still nursing a broken wrist and relying on his trusty bicycle for transportation around Cowes, attempting to navigate the journey home with a substantial meat tray sparked considerable amusement amongst his fellow players.
He did, however, emphatically assure everyone that the prize cuts made it safely through his front door, a testament to his determination.
The darting action continues next week with the highly anticipated round seven of the regular season.
Players are eagerly awaiting the return of league play.
The league looks forward to seeing all members back on the oche, ready for more thrilling matches and friendly rivalry.
