THE Twin ‘W’ Shield doubles tournament is held between Warragul and Wonthaggi on the Saturday following Cup Day each year.
This year, the event was hosted by Warragul and four pairs from each club vied for the coveted Shield.
The weather, unfortunately, was quite atrocious, but nevertheless, great croquet was played, and much fun was experienced. Going into the last round of four games Warragul was leading seven games to five, but Wonthaggi rallied and won all of the four games in the round, with the final result being nine games to seven in Wonthaggi’s favour.
A barbecue lunch broke up day and despite the inclement weather, Warragul hosted a fantastic day.
On the weekend, November 1 and 2, Tom Lacey competed in the Victorian Golf Singles Handicap Tournament (three-nine handicap range) at Cairnlea, managing to win two games against some very stiff competition.
That same weekend, four of the members travelled to Morwell to compete in their level play doubles event.
Marj Prendergast and Sue Cartwright won one game in Section 1 and Kathy Ross and Terry Nash (Korumburra and Wonthaggi Associate member), competing in Section 2, won five games and won that section.
Tom Lacey and Sue Baker ventured up to Terang for a four-day tournament, held from November 11 to 13 inclusive, comprising two days of singles and two days of doubles.
Competing in Block A in the singles, Tom won two games whilst Sue, competing in Block B, won six games.
This put her equal on games won with three other players, but was unfortunately relegated to third place on hoops difference. A great effort all the same.
In the doubles, competing in Section A, Tom and Sue won three games.
Well played to all members who ventured far and wide.
Sponsored by the Wonthaggi Workmens Club, Wonthaggi will be hosting an Open Level Play Singles tournament on the weekend of November 22 to 23.
Held in two sections, this event boasts a number of top players from throughout Victoria and members of the public are invited to come along and watch this great game in action.
Play starts at 8.30am each day.
