THE SMELL of breakfast barbeque filled the air and golf bags and buggies filled the back of the Leongatha South Golf Club as players prepared for tee off.
Thirty-six teams, about 150 people, registered to play in the Elders South Gippsland Annual Charity Golf Day on the morning of Friday, June 2.
“It’s a worthy cause and there’s never a shortage of families who need help,” said Rohan McRae Auctioneer and Branch Manager of Leongatha and Korumburra.
It’s the 12th annual golf day that’s been held by the real estate business and over that time $170,000 worth of funds have been raised that go to local families in need, that may be going through a difficult time.
The day attracts multiple sponsors and donations from businesses across South Gippsland and the Bass Coast.
Auction item highlights this year include football memorabilia and accommodation packages.

“It’s always a really good day. Everyone loves it,” said Tracey Gollop, Sales Support Officer for Elders, who spends a great deal of time organising the event every year.
Approximately $35,000 was raised this year.
All proceeds from this year’s event will go to Darcy Sutton and his family and other South Gippsland families in need.
Eight-year-old Darcy Sutton and his father Adam were in a motor vehicle accident in January this year, which tragically resulted in Adam’s death.
Darcy suffered critical injuries and underwent many lifesaving surgeries and spent many months recovering in hospital.
The Sutton family were dealing both with the trauma of the accident and the loss of Adam.
