Two-day format to stay on fixture
Clubs voted 27 to 11 to overturn a switch to one-day cricket across all grades ahead of the October 3 season launch.
THERE will be no changes to the Leongatha and District Cricket Association fixture after a special meeting on Monday September 7 overturned an initial decision to use a one-day format across all grades.
Representatives from local clubs voted 27 to 11 in favour of keeping two-day matches, with the senior men’s A and B Grade divisions to play a mix of one-day and two-day matches across the 2026/27 season.
Concerns about the change included limits on bowlers and longer Saturday games, which would have had an adverse effect on player availability, representative cricket and juniors.
The association can now work on the draw, which is set to be released ahead of the October 3 season launch.
Association secretary Ken Scrimshaw said the competition was looking healthy for the 2026/27 season.
“We have Poowong-Loch entering a team in B2 and Foster is looking stronger as well,” he said.
“Most clubs are happy with the decision (from the special meeting) and are ready to get into it.”
The association is also looking for someone to lead its junior committee.
