Windsurfers plant 350 natives to replace the shade lost at Mahers Landing
Volunteers are wanted on Saturday October 10 to help the Inverloch Windsurfing Club replant shade trees lost in the boat ramp upgrade.
INVERLOCH Windsurfing Club is calling for volunteers to help plant 350 native plants at Mahers Landing on Saturday October 10 to replace the shade and shelter lost when the boat ramp was rebuilt.
The plants have been supplied by the West Gippsland Catchment Management Authority with support from Mering Corporation, and planting runs from 9am to noon with morning tea provided.
“The recent upgrade to the Mahers Landing boat ramp by Better Boating Victoria has been a fantastic asset for the community, but as part of the redevelopment, over 40 established trees were removed, and not replaced,” club president Doug Hocken said.
“We are here all the time, especially when it’s windy, and we’ve come to realise just how important those big trees were for providing some shade and shelter from the wind.”
Community members can register their interest by emailing president@inverlochwindsurf.org.au.
